We have been associated with a manufacturing organization since 2017. Over the years, we gained a deep understanding of their business processes and built a relationship based on trust and collaboration.

As a part of their technology roadmap, the organization decided to migrate all applications to the .NET platform using Entity Framework 3.1.

The planning phase was exhaustive. Multiple brainstorming sessions helped us finalize the application structure. The UI, action buttons, table views, reports, and workflows were carefully designed. The development team adopted the Database First approach, every agreed requirement was implemented, and the beta version was presented to the core team, including senior management.

Everything appeared to be on track.

Then came one observation from the Managing Director.

“I don’t see a provision for managing the evolving innovations in the product details.”

That single sentence changed the direction of the project.

We realized that while we had designed the application around the current business processes and products, we all as a project team had overlooked the scalability of product design and processes will evolve. As the business grew, new data fields, additional logs, and changing workflows became essential.

It was a case of Blindsided Business Logic.

Supporting these changes required a significant redesign, and the final release was extended by four months.
That project taught me an important lesson.

A well-designed application should not only solve today’s business problems—it should be prepared for tomorrow’s business realities.

Applications are built for current requirements. Great architecture anticipates evolving business logic.
